36 Days of Type is a project that invites designers, illustrators and graphic artists to express their particular interpretation of the letters and numbers of the Latin alphabet.

The yearly open call explores the creative boundaries of letterforms, where participants are challenged to design a letter or number each day for 36 consecutive days, as a global and simultaneous act showing the outcome of the ability to represent the same symbols from thousands of different perspectives.

The project aims to be a space for creation around typography and its endless graphic possibilities.

I challenged myself to step away from my computer and design my alphabet by hand. I created each letter and number from edible ingredients. Letters A-Z are crafted from foods that start with the same letter (e.g. A is made from avocado, B is made from a bagel, etc.) When it came to the numbers, I created the forms from foods I’d been eager to play with during the alphabet.

“Working with Zoe was in many ways the ideal experience: she brought a clear vision and the drive to achieve it. Her insight and careful planning ensured that the project ended up true to the initial ideas that inspired our whole team. The quality of the finished work is a testament not only to her creativity, but to her skilled leadership.

I would consider myself lucky for the opportunity to work alongside Zoe again; her commitment to quality and professionalism guarantee that, if nothing else, one can learn lots from watching her work.” — Sebastian, production assistant
